Hole 17 (Road Hole)
The 17th, known as the Road Hole, plays 495 yards as one of the hardest par 4s in championship golf. The approach is played blind over the corner of the old railway sheds (now part of the Old Course Hotel), to a narrow green guarded by the Road Hole bunker, with the road and stone wall that give the hole its name running right behind the green.
Historic Moments on the Road Hole
- 1978: Japanese golfer Tommy Nakajima needs four shots just to escape the Road Hole bunker during the Open Championship, carding a 9, the bunker has been known as "the Sands of Nakajima" ever since.
- 1984: Tom Watson, tied for the lead, bogeys the 17th in the final round for a 73, ending his bid for a third straight Open, while Seve Ballesteros birdies the 18th minutes later to win. The two holes decided the same Open.
More Than Just a Golf Print
For a lot of golfers, St Andrews isn't just another course on the list, it's the one they've thought about since they first picked up a club. Some spend years entering the ballot, others save for a trip that takes a decade to plan. And however the round goes, walking off the 17th green with the Road Hole behind you is a moment most golfers only get once.
That's why this print means more than most gifts. It isn't just a picture of a hole, it's the golf trip with friends, the bucket-list round finally ticked off, or the course that started a lifelong love of the game.
Personalised for Their Round
Every print can include a personalised message, so it can read exactly like the day it's marking, not a generic caption.
Add their name, the date they played, their score, who they played with, a favourite memory from the round, or anything else worth remembering.
Whether it's a first trip to St Andrews, a retirement round, a society outing, or a gift for someone who dreams of playing the Old Course one day, the print becomes a record of one specific day.
A Gift They'll Actually Keep
Good for birthdays, retirement, Father's Day, Christmas, Captain's Day, society prizes, or any round worth remembering.
Unlike most golf gifts, it doesn't end up in a drawer, it ends up on a wall.
