Little Aston Golf Club has hosted its share of golfing greats since Harry Vardon laid out the course in 1908. In 1933, Walter Hagen and Open Champion Densmore Shute played an exhibition match against the club's own professional, Percy Alliss — whose son, Peter Alliss, went on to win his first professional tournament at Little Aston in 1954, beating Bobby Locke by a single shot. Another club professional, Maurice Bembridge, later equalled the Masters course record at Augusta with a closing round of 64 in 1974.
The 16th is a 397-yard par 4 played from a raised tee down into the fairway, with no fairway bunkers within reach of a well-struck drive. Miss left or right, though, and the rough and trees are waiting — and anything short leaves a downhill lie into a green that sits above you
